Grateful for the Pandemic?
3 Ways Gratitude Shifted My Perspective During the Pandemic
I’m a Better Person For It
There is a quote I have plastered in my bathroom:
“Life isn’t how you survive the thunderstorm, but how you dance in the rain.” — Walt Disney
I began my pandemic by isolating early because my neighbor, the epidemiologist, advised me to when I asked what she recommended for people who are immune-compromised. We lived in Sunny California and drives to the beach for walks were common, but not anymore. Then we would drive to the beach, sit in the car staring at the ocean. Hey! It was better than nothing.
And then, weeks after the onslaught of COVID-19, my husband came to me to tell me that our business was in dire financial straits. I remember staring at him not sure whether to punch him or cry with him. It was the first time I was witnessing big tears rolling down his cheeks. After a few minutes, I realized that we needed to come up with a plan.
The first plan was how to deal with the mess before us. That involved some major soul searching and finally closing the business. After tears and long conversations, we decided to move across the country.
