Yes, I’m back. And, yes, taking a break is refreshing for my soul, as it is for everyone.

I have learned, over the years, that taking short breaks is good. It is nourishing and brings solace and peace to me.

For those of you who have been reading my Medium writing since the beginning, I wrote about my health issues with hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue here. Anyone who has long-term autoimmune issues or challenging diseases knows that there are seven things that are non-negotiables, but that doesn’t mean that those of you who are healthy cannot reap the benefits from taking prolonged periods of rest.

1. Sleep is not underrated

People who talk about their sleep patterns as if they can go days without sleep, I say, “good for you!” I am not one of those people, nor do I ever wish to be one. Sleep is important for restoration. As you sleep the cells in your body restore. Your mind, body, and soul rest — really rest. It’s a complete reset for your entire mind, body, and soul. There is no social media, too much screen time, chaos in your brain, etc. You just get to snuggle into slumber and let your body exhale…
