A Favorite Blissful Winter Day of Sun, Work, and Paddle Boarding in Bora Bora
Seems Like a Dream, But Maybe It’s Not
There is no fireplace, no snow, and no wind. There is no need for earmuffs, hats, and scarves because we live in Bora Bora in a hut over the water. Most days are blissful with a little sun, a little work, and some paddleboarding.
I wake up to hear the water slapping against the aluminum-covered wood posts that are the legs to our house — the hut over the South Pacific Ocean. My husband has been up for several hours. I peek over to see him sipping on his espresso, hunched over his laptop.
I close my eyes, hoping for a few more minutes of sleep. The warm fur of our dog’s butt is slammed against my right side, and I roll over to spoon with her before I get up. I drift away, dreaming about croissants, fruit, and hot tea. The breeze from the ocean drifts across my skin. I am thankful that we decided to make this move.
Later today I will paddleboard over to the mainland and get some groceries. We rigged up a plastic milk crate on the front of the board so things wouldn’t get too wet.
My thoughts whirl back to my writing and editing business with all the projects that are due soon. Most days, I sit at…
