Having a daily attitude of gratitude has been my saving Grace. As someone who battles depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I had to learn new tools to merely get out of bed. Seriously.

Neuroscientist Glenn Fox studied the effects of gratitude and learned that it not only helps a person stay in the moment, appreciating life for what it holds. Another researcher, Emiliana Simon-Thomas learned that practicing gratitude also reduces pain, lowers stress, improves blood pressure, heart function, and your overall immune system.

Fox also learned that “increased sensitivity doesn’t necessarily mean that you become constantly grateful, but rather it means you become more attuned to the full range of gratitude, from holding the door for someone to donating a kidney.”

So, in keeping with this week’s writing prompt to create your gratitude list, here I go!

1. Clean running water: After living outside the U.S. and traveling to places where water is not a plentiful commodity, I am incredibly grateful for the clean water I have every day.
