And for women it’s even a tougher reality. That’s my experience from working with women in Skid Row in LA.
And to add to all of this, after having several conversations with people living on the streets, often they had an apartment and a job but if they were let go from the job or faced a medical emergency they didn’t have savings because they were living paycheck to paycheck and one bump in life throws them out to the streets. Not because they weren’t trying, but because so many layers of systemic oppression keep them from succeeding.
