Being A Better Person Is Less About Ethics and More About Your Soul
Just Do the Right Thing
A few years back, my husband and I faced a dilemma of how to do the right thing. Our apartment was flooding, and management wasn’t doing much to accommodate us. It became more exhausting as each day passed.
In the end, it became less about ethics and more about how to care for our soul. Most often, being a better person isn’t about ethics, but about how to care for you, your soul, and your heart.
Sometimes being a better person is about apologizing, rather than fighting or demanding that you are right. In fact, being a better person often is less about ethics (moral principles) and more about your soul. What is right for you and the other person?
More often, doing the right thing (a.k.a. being a better person) is offering forgiveness, helping the elder across the street, backing down in an argument or staying when you want to leave.
Intention, actions, and outcomes become intertwined. Sometimes your intentions are good, and the actions are meh, so the outcome is not great. Then people ridicule and judge you even though your intention was good. Then you’re walking into a potential blame game and, still, all you were only trying to do good…
