God Doesn’t Need You To Do Anything
What?! Yes. That is correct.
God, if you don’t need me to do anything, then show me how to give You my whole heart so that I can hear Your whispers of Love to guide me.
It seems counterintuitive and confusing, right? I mean, in Genesis it says man and woman are meant to labor in the garden (Genesis 1:29). That’s doing. God also calls people to do good (Galatians 6:9; Thessalonians 3:13). Isn’t that doing?
For the God who made the world and all that is in it, the Sovereign of heaven and earth, doesn’t live in sanctuaries made by human hands, and isn’t served by humans, as if in need of anything. No! God is the One who gives everyone life, breath — everything. — Acts 17:24, 25, The Inclusive Bible
In theology, this is the doctrine of aseity (Merriam Webster: the quality of state of being self-derived or self-originated; the absolute self-sufficiency, independence, and autonomy of God), which means that God exists of or from God’s self.
