The hill seems steep as Jesus and, eventually, Simon, drag this behemoth cross up Skull Hill [Golgotha] to his final death. In the movie, The Passion of the Christ, Jesus’ mother is following him on the side, almost step for step. There is a split nanosecond where they make eye contact, and it seems there is a hush of silence. It’s a nanosecond of silence that blankets the world.

Jesus’ blood and sweat are dripping on the dusty path as he trudges, drags, and pulls. Jesus knows what is coming and he is dragging his lynching post to a high spot. It wasn’t enough that the soldiers made a thorny crown and pounded it into his head, streams of blood trickling down his face.

Lectio Divina:

This is a form of divine reading where you read or listen slowly through a passage. In this case, I have provided three readings for you to listen to.

As you listen to this section from Matthew 27:28–37 and 45–50 (TPT), close your eyes and get into a comfortable position.

There are three readings, each with prompts. Give yourself a couple of minutes or more between each reading to take notes on what God is showing you.
