Gratitude and Humility: The Remarkable Connection And How One Grows From Another
From the core of humility comes the blossoms of gratitude

Spirit, out of the well of our humble hearts, may you teach us to be grateful for everything.

There is a remarkable connection between gratitude and humility. From a posture of humility, gratitude will blossom and flow because gratitude creates a new sense of security, well-being, and confidence.
You probably have read and heard enough about the many benefits of gratitude:
- Better sleep
- Helps you get closer to God, Buddha or your higher power
- Reduces physical pain
- Improves focus and productivity
- More joyful
- Improves health
- Less anxious
- Able to cultivate healthier relationships
- More confidence
But how do you get there?
In order to have an attitude of gratitude, you need to sow seeds of humility. Gratitude doesn’t mean there is an obligation to return anything or pay it back. Often, the spirit of indebtedness comes from shame, which can be confused (at times) with humility.
“Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves. Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests.” (Philippians 2:3–4, TPT)
As you clothe yourself in humility, you will automatically become more in tune with how God views things. As you sit quietly praying and pondering with God, you will sense the shift to an attitude of gratitude. But it only comes when you have humbled yourself.
