December is a season of expectant joy. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word “expectant” means “having or showing an excited feeling that something is about to happen, especially something pleasant and interesting.”

When I see the word “expectant,” I think of the word “expectorant,” which is generally included in cough syrup. The word “expectorant” is from the Latin “expectorat” meaning “expelled from the chest.”

What if your joy became something expelled from your heart because of your faith? In other words, spilling out in ways that show your enthusiasm for the goodness wrapped up in this season?

For those who celebrate Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or Christmas because of their faith, December is the month to expectorantly (my word) have joy.

For reference

Christmas is a Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th.
African Americans celebrate Kwanzaa for seven days to reconnect with family, community, and culture.
Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish celebration that pays tribute to the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the 2nd Century B.C.
