How to Create an Attractive Medium Profile That Readers Will Believe
Keep it simple
If you are on Medium to write and make some money, then creating a great profile is key. It’s like picking up a book at the bookstore to check out the author’s bio page. What are some things you look for?
- Headshot
- Name or Pen Name
- The section on who the author is
The same is true for Medium. If you want to gain fans, not followers, a profile is important.
After you log in, you will notice the menu bar on the left-hand side of your screen. The icons (in order) are house (home page), bell (notifications), stacked bookmark (lists), a page with lines (your stories), graph (stats), pencil on top of a box (write), and waaaay at the bottom is a circle with your profile picture.
That is your profile area. Click on your picture and this box will pop up:
Click on Settings. It will take you to your Profile Settings page.
NAME
At the very top you see Name. Add your real name or pen name. This helps your reader know that you are who you are and gives you street cred. In other words, if you’re on Medium to build a writing practice, create community, and live in a country that offers payment, it’s good to use your real name or pen name.
BIO
This is another important area. Medium allows you 160 characters. Use them all, if you can. If you have a professional title, add that here. Link a personal website. Include your Twitter handle (make sure it is active and connected). Add what you write about.
