Does this sound familiar?

Spirit, help me to be patient, to trust, and to know that what’s meant to be will always find a way. I don’t have to find a way if it’s not meant to be. It will just be.

Does that statement sound familiar to you? Find a way or make one. Does it make you cringe or empower you?

A few years ago, I would have responded to that with, “Hell yeah!”

Now I cringe. Now I think, wait a minute, what does that entail of my mind, body, heart, and soul? Now I stop and wonder, if all of me is reacting this way, what does that say? Is it an invitation from God or a dangling carrot clothed in bling, trying to distract me from what I am meant to do?

I come from a very long line of men and women who weathered the storm, stood up for what they believed in, battled poverty, war, and economic depression. They became strong because of it. They persevered. I am strong because of it. But is it necessary today?

Making a way or else seems to indicate some hurry, a bit of haste, and it has to be done now mentality. That makes me stop dead in my tracks.

The phrases “stand up or die trying” and “no weapon formed against me shall prosper” make me tired. My ancestors were tired of doing it. I was tired of doing it. I’m still tired of doing it, but I am learning a new way.

Does that sound familiar to anyone? Leave me a note in the comments.

If you think that peace and happiness are somewhere else and you run after them, you will never arrive.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

I knew way before I was an adult that chasing money was not my thing. Maybe that was the artist in me. Maybe it was just something I innately knew. Maybe I was already tired…
