To understand joy, you need to understand the opposite — sorrow. At some point, all humans encounter sorrow, disappointment, or hurt feelings. It is also what you are drawn to. If you normally engage with things of sorrow and darkness, you are opening yourself up to a black hole of darkness. If you invite encouragement, positive thoughts, and love into your life daily, you will connect your heart to joy because that level of happiness doesn’t depend on the day of the week. It does, however, draw you closer to joy.

Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.

To stay connected to joy requires you to connect to it intentionally. Yes, life gets in the way. You will be faced with situations that might drain you of your joy, but standing in peace does not mean you leave joy at the door.
