Invocation

Spirit, lighten the way with your presence.

While you are waiting in line at the grocery store, waiting for the bus or subway, taking a bathroom break, tying your shoes, or waiting for your coffee/tea to steep, you can enter into a powerful and sacred practice of living in the moment. Your role and participation in your everyday practices can become sacred renewals and/or awakenings. You just have to lean into them.

Merriam Webster defines “discipline” in several ways. One that stands out, for this instance, is “train oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way.” In other words, the more you practice it, the more it becomes muscle memory. Practicing mindfulness takes time, which means it takes discipline.

It’s no different than disciplining yourself to exercise or read more. You have to do it consistently, so it becomes a practice. This is where the discipline comes in.
