When our hearts are blinded by things rather than You, have mercy on us, Spirit, and guide us back into Your loving arms.

I was chatting with a friend recently about the concept of gratitude. She mentioned that her depression is getting the best of her right now, and the more I listened to her fading voice, the more I heard the struggle.

At one point, I asked her about her gratitude practice. She responded, “but I’m struggling with the fact that I think I’m just not good.”

And there it was. This idea that we are not good in God’s eyes and, therefore, what we could possibly be grateful for looms over us. We have made a mistake so big (in our minds) that God couldn’t possibly want us around anymore. So, what’s to be thankful for?
