Megan, I love that you wrote about this! I used to be in the same camp as you are. And then I met a man I wanted to marry. Why? I can't explain it. I even asked all my married friends why they got married to hear the myriad of reasons. And, they were vast and far. Some made me cringe. My husband and I don't believe in gender roles, so that's not what's it about. It just changed for me. We've been married 18 years now, and I can't imagine my life without him as my husband.

It's interesting timing that I read your essay today because in the US they're voting on the RFMA (Respect for Marriage Act) which effects same sex AND interracial marriages, of which I'm in the latter group. For the first time, I have been rocked to the core that my marriage might be seriously affected if this bill does not pass.

Weird how we change, right?
