This past week the writing prompt was to write about the place where you grew up. How did that place shape you?

As always, my heart was touched by the submissions.

Sometimes childhood becomes a dream that you wanted but not what you expected. Courtney Capone shares her painful journey as a ballerina with a prestigious ballet company.

“What were they so happy about? Why were they so excited to be injured? To be insulted? To be chastised and pushed and pulled (literally) and bent until they could no longer break? I saw no joy in any of it.”

When you have been born out of wedlock in the 60s, it makes growing up a bit more challenging for the entire family. It’s a good thing Judy Walker had her grandparents in the Summers. It’s a good thing that they became her village of all villages.
