Writing Prompt

Write down ideas on how you can be more accepting of those who are different from you. How can doing this improve your quality of life?

Theme: Gratitude

I always appreciate the creativity of writers — to take a writing prompt and see what they need to see in order to respond to the prompt. That’s what Misty Rae did. Normally, the outside and the one that is “different,” she chose to write from that point of view. The advice she gives is powerful, people — powerful.

Being the oddball, the unwelcomed individual — for whatever reason — comes with a lot of internal shame. So, what does Misty Rae suggest we do? Shut up. Be quiet and listen. That’s it. Because when you listen, you can hear so much. This goes beyond the adage, “what’s in it for me?”

“Well, what’s in it for me is education. Sometimes, when I just shut my big pie hole and listen, I learn something. It can be something as huge as the fact that I’d been wrong about something for a very long time, or as small as discovering a new travel destination or recipe.”
