a young girl once
now an older woman
she
of mixed-race
born into two cultures
she
Beloved
child of God
she
a survivor
became a parent at age five
she
found her way
listening to her heart
she asks
soul, where are you?
and where are we going?
she hears
be you
for you will never go wrong
she knows
hate, racism, and struggle
and she has survived
she also knows
love, grace, and mercy
which has kept her alive
