Summer Songs! Aren’t They the Best?

Which is it—the Summer heat or being at the beach that makes music more uplifting?

Music has been around for about 35,000 years, coming out of the Paleolithic period. During cave times, flutes were hand-made, hollowing the inside of branches.

The Bible mentions music and instruments, used as a way to worship God, with the Psalms being the inspiration for hymns today. Instruments mentioned in the Bible are flutes, cymbals, bells, trumpets, lyres, harps, bells, voices (yes, your voice is a musical instrument), reed-pipe, tambourines, and the shofar (a horn from a ram or goat).

Growing up, I learned how to play two instruments: the piano and the recorder. I had so much fun learning how to play the recorder with its hollow, wooden sounds. The piano became an instrument that I gravitated toward because my parents played a lot of classical music and whenever I heard the sounds of the piano, my heart stood still.

Later in life, I learned to use my voice as an instrument, singing in different places. Now, the only people who hear me sing are my husband and my dog.

Now that we are amidst the warm Summer days, it seems that songs sound more upbeat and uplifting. Is…
