Spirit, as I am faced with illness (physical or mental), show me how to be present to you and through you, myself.

It’s easy to feel like you’ve lost your purpose in life when illness hits you, or maybe illness has been with you all of your life. You’ve already had to figure out ways to manage.

Now you are relegated to attending to your illness. It becomes the source of your everyday thoughts and actions. It can also consume the thoughts of those who are caregivers to you.

And yet, if you were to stop and ask God what your life purpose is now with this disease or illness, you might be surprised to hear a whisper of Love. It might resemble something close to what Brother David Steindl-Rast wrote,

“too easily we are inclined to imagine that God created this world for…
