It begins with the anticipation that someone will notice you and you will choose someone to be your Valentine. For some, it’s a fluttery heart. For others, it’s magical. And, unfortunately, for some, it’s an obligation. I’m sorry for the latter group.

After all, Valentine’s Day is the day of love, right?

Do you hear that music playing? No?

After working in a flower shop, I have learned that flowers don’t make a relationship more romantic, no matter how much money was spent or how beautiful the flowers are, or how beautiful or handsome you looked in your dinner outfits.

Because attending to love is a lifelong marathon … if you want it to last.

Flowers and fancy dinners don’t mend a relationship long-term. They are meant to be highlights to an already blossoming or mature relationship. Only the people involved and their willingness to hear and speak with…
