What if Saying “I’m Sorry” Means Something Else?

How many times do you say “I’m Sorry” in one day?

Spirit, help me to be true to myself and true to you without having to apologize out of fear.

When you say sorry for authentic reasons, it’s good. But what if saying “I’m sorry” means something else? Have you ever noticed how many times you say “I’m sorry” or “sorry” in one day?

I hear women saying “I’m sorry” a little too often, and for no real reason at all. Did you know that uncontrollable apologies point to low-esteem? For years now, I’ve been trying to catch myself before it sputters out of my mouth, but I’m not perfect, so it happens.

In fact, the reason I thought about this is because my husband and I were dancing around the kitchen trying to stay out of each other’s way and I heard myself say, “Sorry.” I realized there was nothing to be sorry for. I was cleaning something up and he was waiting for me to finish.

No need for an apology, right?

Another signal of too many apologies is living in a fear of punishment. Did you grow up having to tiptoe around, afraid of rustling emotional feathers? Yeah, I can relate.
