What if Self Care is Less About Indulgence and More About Discipline?
The More You Are, The More You Will Be
Has anyone noticed that a lot of scriptures in the Bible speak about doing and less about being? Or is that because the Sunday message comes across that way?
Let’s take a look at a couple of scriptures that actually speak to self-care, but not as an indulgence. Instead, self-care is encouraged as a discipline. In Matthew 6:25–34, he writes about worry and letting it go.
My paraphrasing:
What’s the fuss? There is no need to worry about what you will eat for dinner or whether your outfit is in fashion because everything will be provided. There is so much more to be concerned with. Have you noticed the birds in the sky? They’re not fluttering around planting seeds and storing food and yet they are always taken care of. That’s because God always makes sure they are taken care of.
Don’t you think you’re more valuable than the birds? So, why do you worry about your clothes?
In fact, look at all the flowers in the field. They also don’t work or toil and they are more beautiful than Solomon dressed in his finest clothes. If God provides hay in the meadow, which is only there for a short time…
