Spirit, help us all to trust when God is using someone else to speak into our lives, even when it doesn’t make sense. Give us great wisdom.

The continued story of Jesus’ fate resting in the hands of others continues on in Matthew 27:19–24 when Pontius Pilate, a Roman governor, is mandated with selecting a sentence for Jesus.

In the modern day, it might come close to an innocent person being found guilty by a jury. The person is then brought forth for sentencing in front of a judge. It is up to the judge to give a rightful punishment for the crime committed.

In this case, the story is about Jesus and there is no wrong committed.

In fact, Pontius Pilate’s wife has a dream about Jesus and tells her husband — more like warns him — not to do anything. Pilate ignores her warning and sentences Jesus to death by crucifixion.

“While Pilate was judging the case, his wife sent him a message. It said, “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man. I have had nightmares because of him.”
