When I had Refresh the Soul open before, I got to the point where I burned out. I was also the pub owner of the Shortform and editing for another publication, CRY Magazine. That was a lot.
I regret shutting down Refresh the Soul completely and wished I had done what you did, Diana, when you took a break, which was to ask for help from another publication. I hope, this conversation helps editors connect with one another so we can help each other.
As you mentioned, having more editors is great because it does free up your time, but it doesn’t free you up from all the back end stuff (adding writers, monitoring questions from editors, etc.), so I hear you on that.
The way I operate now is to write on separate days from editing. It allows my brain to shift from the logical part of my brain, which editing requires.
